Considering Parenting

No matter which option you choose, Parenting can be a challenge, but it can also be incredibly rewarding. Your child, no matter what stage of pregnancy development, is already half made up of you. Parenting allows you to watch as your child grows, take his/her first steps, laughs, and develop interests all their own.

If you think parenting might be an option for you, but you have concerns about money, baby supplies, insurance or your parenting skills, there is help available. The Women's Clinic has Parenting Classes available for you!

Why choose to parent?

If you're pregnant or think you might be pregnant, it's natural to think about parenting as an option. What you might not have considered is that there are several parenting options.

‚Äč

The important thing to remember is parenting can look very different for each family, which is a good thing. Parenting gives you more options and can help you create a plan for your future that fits in both a child and important goals you plan to pursue.

Parenting with a Spouse/Partner

Parenting with a spouse is one option to consider. If you are already married or in a serious, loving relationship, this may be the right option for you.

Joint-Parenting/Joint-Custody

Another option is Joint-parenting or Joint-custody. This is when you and the father of your baby don't live together, but both of you raise the child together. This can work well when you and your baby's father are both committed to being in your child's life, but marriage just isn't right for you.

Single Parenting

Single parenting is a common option and one many pregnant women consider and choose. Even single parenting isn't done one certain way. Some women live with their parents, a sibling or a friend so they have help and support with their baby. Some women also live independently and parent on their own.
